Ideas for later

These are ideas for tools that could suit a band site. None is built, and each would need a decision from Kelvin and Rachel.

For review:Costs are rough guesses and were not checked against current prices.

Suggestion

A session calendar from a shared Google Calendar

Someone would keep one Google Calendar for the session and for gigs, and the site would show the next dates from it.

The harder part is deciding who keeps the dates right, because the pub's page and the Old City listing already carry dates that do not fully agree.

Effort: low to moderate. Cost: nothing beyond a Google account.

Suggestion

A forwarding address for bookings

An address such as bookings@thetrows.com could forward to Kelvin, Rachel or both. The domain thetrows.com is registered with Porkbun, which may offer email forwarding (to be confirmed). The address is only an example, and nothing has been set up.

Effort: low. Cost: not estimated.

  • Porkbun registrar for thetrows.com (forwarding availability to be confirmed in the Porkbun account)

For review:Who would receive the mail, and who would reply? Both players may want to see it.

Suggestion

Booking inquiries to a Google Sheet

The booking form would add each inquiry to a Google Sheet and send the person a short acknowledgement email. Someone must read the Sheet and reply.

Effort: moderate. Cost: small if it runs on a free tier.

Suggestion

The copy Sheet as an approval workflow

All the text on this site can be exported to a Google Sheet, one row per block. A named person would approve a row in the Sheet, and the site would then rebuild with that block marked as approved. The export exists. Reading approvals back and rebuilding automatically does not exist yet.

Effort: moderate. Cost: not estimated.

Suggestion

Tune lists drawn from thesession.org

The Session has a read-only API that returns JSON when ?format=json is added to a page address, and it publishes data dumps on GitHub about once a week. A tune list on this site could link each tune to its page there.

The terms for using the data need checking first. A note from another project suggests the licence limits some automated uses. That is unconfirmed here.

Effort: low to moderate. Cost: not estimated.

Sources for this suggestion

For review:The API page was fetched on 2026-10-15 and lists endpoints for tunes, recordings, sessions and events. It does not state the data licence on that page.

Suggestion

An Instagram or Facebook feed

Recent posts from Kelvin's or the band's accounts could appear on the site. Embeds usually load code from the platform, which can slow the page and affect privacy, so a plain link is the lighter option.

Effort: low for a link, moderate for an embed. Cost: not estimated.

Sources for this suggestion

For review:The remark about embeds is general knowledge and was not checked. It also depends on which accounts the players want linked.

Suggestion

YouTube or Bandcamp players

No recordings of the band were found while preparing this draft. If Kelvin and Rachel have any, an official YouTube or Bandcamp player could sit on the music page, credited to the performers.

Effort: low. Cost: hosting is free or cheap.

Suggestion

A mailing list

A sign-up form could collect addresses for an occasional note about sessions and gigs, sent through an email service such as Kit. The real work is deciding who writes and how often.

Effort: low to set up. Cost: depends on the list size and the plan.

For review:Prices were not checked.

Suggestion

A Canva brand kit for posters

The logo, colours and fonts from this site could be set up once in Canva, so session posters and event graphics match the site.

Effort: low once the logo is settled. Cost: not estimated.

For review:A Canva account could be used for this. Prices were not checked.

Suggestion

A small assistant for "when is the next session"

A small assistant on the site could answer the question by reading the calendar and quoting it. It needs the calendar first.

A wrong date would mislead people, so the assistant should quote the calendar and say nothing else.

Effort: moderate. Cost: each answer would cost a small amount to produce.
